What is Reiki?

“Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing.

 

We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of well being.

 

There are many variations of Reiki, but in essence Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally or spiritually. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system.

 

Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.

 

 

What does a Reiki session involve?

The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour-and-a-half, depending on the client’s needs.

 

Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome from treatment. If people are concerned about their symptoms they should see a doctor.

 

What do Reiki treatments feel like?

 

Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time.

 

Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well being on all levels. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colours, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.

What do Reiki treatments do?

Reiki is a safe and soothing treatment that can be:

 

~ Comforting when life is tough. Reiki can support us when we feel overwhelmed or disconnected, bringing peace and clarity.

 

~ Supportive during pregnancy

 

~ Calming for children

 

~ Reassuring for animals

 

~ Helpful at the end of life, promoting peace and acceptance

 

How much Reiki would I need?

 

A single session may be sufficient, but if you have long standing emotional or spiritual issues, a series of sessions may be beneficial.

Mindfulness and meditation is not something one needs to take out many hours in the day for. It is about developing a space in our every day lives to connect to ourselves even at work or while travelling on packed public transport.

Viveka facilitates individual and group sessions  to discuss and share tips on how to build a mindfulness and meditation practice that is best suited to your individual life and circumstances.

Shakti Energy & Goddess Meditation Groups

Shakti Energy and Goddess Guided Meditation Sessions: focus  on unlocking certain aspects of ourselves along with the help and invocation of  goddesses.

 

An explanation of each personified goddesses is followed by short rituals with Mantras(sound vibrations), hand Mudra's(gestures) and some body movements to invoke and invite the goddess energies into the collective space of the class. 

With this we can also hold space for any experiences or emotions that come up and be able to release or hold space for them through certain simple somatic embodiment and breath-work exercises.

 

Each goddess form is a unique pathway into the heart of consciousness and each incarnates and awakens a quality in awareness. The rituals that we perform are for the purpose of using our body, mind and energies to align with the symbols that each Goddess represents, so as to infuse those energies into our daily living.

How do coaching sessions with Viveka work?

After an initial exploratory conversation of 30 minutes to chart out areas in your life that you want to focus on,  there are sessions that can be booked either weekly or fortnightly. Viveka believes that each person has the ability to transform though they may sometimes need some guidance or reflection to reach their optimal  solutions to issues.

Having had lived experience of anxiety and depression and coming out the other side, Viveka understands that there are times in our lives when things don't seem to go the way we hoped and we can feel stuck in patterns that do not seem to be helping us. Viveka has training in mental health counselling and mental health support work. Having someone to reflect back our own stories can help to see things clearer and highlight solutions which we might have missed out on.

Viveka believes in a holistic approach- combining reflective, therapeutic sessions where one can discuss various ways of working on enhancing our lives.

Example of issues that come up with clients:

This example is to highlight one of many things that could be affecting an individual.

Let's take a chronic digestive issue as an example that may be affecting all areas of a persons life. 

On the face of it, this seems like a physical issue, though a digestive problem can often be linked to anxieties that cause a clenching in the gut area.

This can then be linked to a kind of 'stuck-ness' in the normal energy flow around our bodies which then cause disruption to the energy centres or 'chakra's.

There are many ways of working on a digestive issue- talking and sharing about one's anxieties can help reduce it, and doing certain healing and mindfulness exercises can help increase a flow in our energy field. Certain lifestyle and nutritional changes can also help tackle this problem; thus tackling this physical issue in a holistic manner- taking into account the mind, body and energy.
